Until now, the problem with many in-car GPS navigation systems has been confusing user interfaces, poor display screens, restricted map coverage, and slow performance. To address the growing need of drivers to have a strong and reliable navigation tool, Panasonic developed the Strada, HDD mobile navigation system, a user-friendly, high-capacity car navigation system which can easily instruct average, non-technical drivers where they are, where they've been, and how to get to their next destination.

While serving as a driver's electronic navigator between points A, B and C, or any other combination, the Strada CN-NVD905U system can deliver radio broadcasts, real-time traffic information, and CD audio and DVD movie and can even play music and videos from an iPod allowing your car to be another source for on demand entertainment.

Moving beyond navigation and entertainment, Panasonic's new navigation system also boasts several safety and convenience features, such as hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, an optional back-up camera to help avoid fender benders and the ability to program specific geographic areas that the driver wants to avoid.

Complete with high-speed data to provide the driver with possible restaurant choices, gas stations and hotel accommodations along their trip, the Strada system, named after the Italian word for street, is truly the perfect driving companion.

Panasonic CN-NVD905U Review, December 1, 2009
By California "California" (California) -
I have purchased the Kenwood DNX7100 and had the Eclipse 5435 and I have to say the Panasonic is better than both. The Kenwood sound quality without an amp is horrible and the music menu when using an mp3 cd is really slow. The navigation would also lead me in the wrong direction constantly. Another bad thing about the Kenwood is that it does not have hard buttons for track changing. That is really annoying you're trying to drive and you want to change the station or song and you have to look for a button the screen. The touchscreen functionality was also not very accurate. The Eclipse was over all really slow because it was a DVD based navigation. The sound quality on it was very good though and the navigation was accurate.

The Panasonic is a great mix of both! The sound quality without an amp is excellent, the navigation is very accurate and looks almost exactly like the eclipse and the button layout for both onscreen and hard buttons are great! This is by far the fastest unit and the touch screen is very accurate! The only thing I don't like is the layout of the music tracks when playing a cd. It displays 6 songs at a time but my Eclipse used to display up to 9 and it would display them quickly, the Panasonic lags a bit but not as bad as the Kenwood. I also wish that when you changed songs the music list would highlight the song you changed to and follow, but it just stays on the page you're on. Hard to explain.

Over all really good especially for the money. It's a lot better than most navigation units that are twice the price.

This receiver has it all, including a built-in Bluetooth hands-free cell phone module. Other features include USB direct control for portable music devices, 3-line text full dot display, interactive illumination effect, and a multi-control wheel that makes finding music fast and easy.

Kenwood KDC-BT838U CD receiver, January 19, 2009

This head unit is well worth the price. I am anti-iPod guy and this unit having an USB connection made it very easy to "digitally" connect a hard drive. I now have a 200 gig hard drive (~$150) in my vehicles, never with out a type of music. This unit allows you to navigate the hard drive from the units screen. With the provided software, you can make playlist or just add music to the hard drive. It also has bluetooth, so you can also stream music that way. The unit also come with hands free, there is a mic with a cord on it long enough to put anywhere. If your state is (or has) mandated hands free devices and you are not one to want to look like a cyborg, this unit will comply with the law. It mutes the music, diplays the caller, push a knob and your connected. Once hooked up, everything is automatic, just get into your car, start it and it connects. It will download your phonebook to the unit so you can dial from the unit. Here is another good thing, ever leave home without your cell phone, well you wont ever again, tells you not connected within a minute of starting your vehicle. I would definitly recommend this to my poorest friend, well worth the investment.

So many options!!, May 7, 2008
By The Real Marine "Joey" (Everywhere, USA) -
I bought this a few weeks after it first went on sale. Works great, takes some time getting used to the controls and all the different setting you can choose. Bluetooth works good also, sends a request to my phone whenever I start my car. Only took seconds to upload my entire address book from my Katana. Navigation works well also, but havn't used that as much. I was very surprised it had a lot of the small unpaved roads that I sometimes travel on when I was driving. I also bought the Kenwood iP300V to play my iPod (80 GB Classic) through. Which works great, no glitches or freezing during any point. Plays the videos that are on my iPod also. Bottom line no problems so far it's a great product and would recommend this to anyone looking for all these features for a great price.

The Kenwood Excelon DNX9140 navigation receiver gives you turn-by-turn directions from its internal Garmin navigation system, plus built-in Bluetooth for safer hands-free calling. The DNX9140's VGA screen boasts a level of detail and brightness that's steps ahead of lesser models, for vibrant movie playback when you're parked, and outstanding detail and clarity when you're using the intuitive menus and navigation features.

Fantastic Head Unit, September 14, 2009
By Donald P. Mori (Kennesaw, Georgia USA) -
Finally, I've managed to unclutter my windshield. I now have my cell phone, GPS, XM radio, Traffic receiver, DVD player and CD player all in this one unit. The Garmin nav system is GREAT and works just as my Garmin Nuvi 880 worked. Satellite radio is fully functional and the bluetooth interface works flawlessly with my LG cellphone. I have now been able to clean up all the clutter (wires & devices) that have litterd my windshield and dashboard. The User interface is highly intuitive and easily understood by even non techies. Kenwood has a great product in this unit!

Excellent unit for the price, January 12, 2008

By Timothy K. Li "licotimli" (Fullerton, CA United States) -
This unit had all the features that I wanted in a double-DIN headunit. The only thing I would improve is the trim piece that is included was not wide enough for fitment in my Acura, and I had to glue an extra piece of black plastic behind the included trim to fill the 1/8" space on each side. The other minor complaint that I deducted was its somewhat weak tuner section with was not as good as my provious unit, a Pioneer. I noticed some stations had static at some places in my neighborhood which previously were clear. Otherwise, I think this is a great double-DIN headunit for someone who does not want a touch-screen, and who want real buttons.

The JVC KW-AVX820 DVD/CD/USB receiver features a 7-inch widescreen touch panel display, proximity sensor and detachable face. Built-in Bluetooth wireless technology gives you hands-free cell phone calling and wireless audio streaming. Also included is a full-speeed USB 2.0 port for USB devices or iPod/iPhone control. With playback of AAC/WAV/MP3/WMA files, a 7-band iEQ, an internal MOSFET 50W x 4 amplifier, and plenty more, this is a very competitive 2-DIN multimedia system.

I love this multimedia receiver. It makes my system sound amazing and adds the looks to my car as well. The dvd playback on this receiver looks great and clear. For the average person with some knowledge of how to install these types of receivers it will not be hard to install this one. Did I mention that the video playback is great and the sound is amazing. It makes me want to drive my car more often than usual.

What an owner has to say about the Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD:

Awesome Head Unit, April 10, 2009

By GHUZ "Glen" (New Jersey, USA)
This head unit is by far the best I've encountered. I do installs for audio/video/lighting and other accessories on the side and out of all the head units I've come across this one is very versatile. I have a 98' accord and the stock head unit went so I decided to treat myself to a nice double din touch screen unit. The Main thing i wanted was a nice stock look, and with the ability to change the illumination colors I was able to achieve that. This is a feature that is not common on aftermarket head units. The other thing I liked about this head unit is that it was flush with the rest of my dash. There arent any ugly knobs with a ring of light protruding or cheesy looking buttons, its slick and clean with very responsive controls. The only Negative aspect of this product is the fact that in order to get full potential you need the add ons such as the bluetooth adaptor. I was budgeting for a nice head unit so I went the direction, however I feel something like the bluetooth or HD radio should be integrated like other single din receivers. Overall however, I still have to say this is an awesome product. The iPod can be connected and charged using a standard fire-wire cable, the screen resolution is superb, the personalization features are great, and the sleek look is unbeatable. 4 out of 5 stars just due to the lack of bluetooth and/or HD radio.

I bought this about 9 months ago and it's still a great purchase. It's relatively easy to install (once I found the documentation for my car that told me which wire is the speed sensor wire and found a found a path through my car's dash).

The hard drive is great, because it holds the maps so you don't have to use a separate maps DVD. There is also about 20 GB of space for your own MP3's. I figure the hard drive will be the first thing to go...but so far it is going strong.

Copying music to the hard drive....UGH. From a DVD, it takes about 2-3 minutes to copy 1 albums worth of MP3s from a DVD This doesn't seem like a long time, but when you want to copy 5 GB of MP3s, that means about two hours. A long time to sit in the car pushing buttons. Make sure they are properly tagged and in separate folders by Artist/Album).

I haven't bothered to encode MP3s from audio CD's (well, I did it once and it was painfully slow - about 15 minutes to copy a 60 minute album). When you encode from Audio CD, the artist and song names are just random junk unless you take the time to fix it. If the CD has CD-Text, then the song names will show up properly, but in my experience most commercial audio CD's do not have CD-Text.

MP3s played from the Hard drive do not auto resume from the previous song position after turning your car on. MP3s played from Disc or Ipod adapter DO resume correctly. HOWEVER, if the 4 GB DVD is full on MP3s, it takes about 30-40 seconds for the stereo to enumerate all the tracks and start playback. Sound quality is decent and their is a full EQ with factory and user definable levels.

There are a ton of features on this thing but one drawback is that you can't use more than one external connector at a time. In other words, you can use the bluetooth adapter OR the ipod adapter OR the Aux adapter OR the XM adapter. Changing the adapters requires pulling the stereo out and switch it...not a trivial thing.

Also, I would not recommend the ipod adapter. Yes it is capable of charging the ipod (sometimes) but it is not compatible with some of the newer ipods, in particular it does not work with my 1st gen ipod touch or my iphone 3G. It did work with my ipod 5th gen video charging and playback (until that was stolen). HOWEVER a major drawback of the ipod adapter is you HAVE to use the interface on the stereo which is AWFUL if you have more than 50 or so songs on your ipod (especially if they aren't tagged properly by artist album). With that in mind I would recommend the KS-U58 adapter which has just a 3.5 mm stereo jack (headphone mini) which can interface with any mp3 player. It is a lot cheaper than the ipod adapter. No it will not charge, but when your friend rides along and they want to listen to their ipod it is a PAIN to teach them how to use the stereo's interface, so the standard 3.5 mm adapter lets them use the ipod's interface.

I have not used the bluetooh or XM adapters.

The navigation is very good in my experience (mostly navigating in the Boston/New England area - City, suburbs, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut). Re-routing works flawlessly, and the paths are pretty good (if only it could be configured to ignore Fenway on gameday!) It only says generic street names (e.g. "Continue on Ninety-three North" or "Make a left on U-S twenty-eight", it will not say "Harvard Street" or "Commonwealth Ave". For some reason the accuracy of the roundabout directions surprises me, it will say "Take the 3rd exit at the traffic circle" which is impressive.

The speed sensor wire has come loose two times in two years. Navigation will not work AT ALL without the speed sensor wire. It was relatively easy to pop the hood and re-clamp the connector. I'm sure if I'd had it professionally installed, they would have done a better job than I of securing the connection.

No touchscreen or voice commands, if those are deal breakers for you, but honestly I'm am SOOO glad I have this instead of a Tom-Tom or Garmin. It doesn't take up a power outlet, less concerned about it being stolen (detachable faceplate FTW), and it's always there when I need it, and it has a MP3 hard drive built in. I bought it for Music and Navigation and couldn't be happier...the purpose of a review is to be critical and point out flaws that others may have a problem with. I consider the unit's flaws to be minor so I think this stereo is great after-market option that rivals the newer factory installed in dash units in features (if not screen size).

Small but full of Technology, August 31, 2007
By Solomore (Fort Irwin, CA) -
This is one hell of a unit. I have had it for 3months now and suffice it to say it has everything you could ever ask for. For example, if you decide to adjust the sound settings, watch out, you might rip your speakers or are you into satelite radios...it is Sirius and XM radio ready. Navigation is superb and as far as I am concerned, it is on par with my 2007 Yukon navigation system. I have watched full lenght movies on the screen with front passengers and connected video monitors on the headrests for rear passengers. There are so much more to this unit; bluetooth, MP3/ZUNE/IPOD adapter, 13million POI etc
I love it and will buy another if I ever have to.

January 26, 2009
This DVD Player is amazing, when i sit in my car it connects to my phone via bluetooth so i can talk to people from my stereo. I would recommend this Head Unit to anyone.

PROS: Plays .avi files (Divix); Plays iPod videos (with adapter, which is worth buying); can upgrade to HD radio; can upgrade to GPS; Stylish; Bluetooth is the BEST

This JVC DVD Receiver Rocks, June 19, 2009

By Alan Matsunaga "bulletmatsu" (bulletmatsu) -
I have had this JVC KD-AVX11 for about 1-1/2 years. It rocks. I picked up the backup camera accessory kit. Let me start by saying, the screen is short from being too small, it is large enough to see all the details in movies and music videos. The bluetooth phone works great and its microphone is very good. The backup camera is cystal clear. I had one of those wireless ones before, this one blows them away. Even at night it is bright and clear. The Ipod connector is okay. The only problem with it is that you can't see more than one song at a time on the dispay. But what is amazing is the usb port. Connect a 20 gig usb drive with as many songs as you want and it will show up on the display in groups of 6-8 songs. Easly to scroll and pick songs. The only disadavantage is that if you have too much songs (more than 10 gigs)then it will take about 20 seconds to read the drive. Also, videos can be watched from your usb drive too. You will have to have a separate usb drive for video (cant read multiple media - music is dominant media). Hope this review help you.

Free your music, free your phone with the Sony Xplod MEX-BT5700U. The MEX-BT5700U is the only Xplod head unit to feature a Bluetooth hands-free calling solution with full PBAP (Phone Book Access Profile) and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) 1.3 support. This means that once your Bluetooth-enabled phone or portable music device is synced with the MEX-BT5700U, the head unit can automatically detect contact information and music metadata from your devices and display it.

Receive a call in your car, and the MEX-BT5700U displays and saves caller and phone number information.

Artist, album, song title, and genre information also appear on the head unit whether you're using an AVRCP-compatible Sony Walkman, or your iPod via the USB One-Wire input.

The MEX-BT5700U gives you quick access to more information through an 8G full-motion, fluorescent display capable of showing up to four lines of data. You'll be tempted to take more than a quick glance, though, with selectable red, blue, or green illumination.

Because the MEX-BT5700U is built on the DRIVE S chassis, you get powerful sound plus loads of connectivity and compatibility options. Included are a front auxiliary input; MP3/WMA/AAC playback with DM+ (Digital Music Plus); satellite radio and HD Radio support; and 4-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preouts with LPF/HPF (Low Pass Filter/High Pass Filter).

Well i'm not gonna denied that am a sony fanboy but a had a very expencive ALPINE unit before this one and to be honest this one is a lot better by far...the thing is some sony products are underrated because hardcore audiophilies say so, but sony is been trying very hard in the last couple of years to improve their products(XPLOD).
this unit is their top of the line for sony 2009 line up..i did a good research before buying and i did the right choice!. It link's with phones and other bluetooth devices very fast...and with the ipod is even easy.
Overall this unit has many great features, great and powerful output (W/out amp)and its a good looking car stereo especially the display!....highly recommended!

The Sony Xplod MEX-BT2700 helps keeps your hands on the steering wheel with Bluetooth hands-free, an integrated microphone, and audio streaming capabilities. Get an all-in-one Bluetooth hands-free calling and wireless audio package at an entry-level price, with the multiformat options, sound quality, and expandability features of top-of-the-line Xplod head units.

The AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) support lets you view track and other song information from your Bluetooth-enabled phone or portable music device on the stereo's display.

When you're ready for a hands-on experience, the MEX-BT2700 supports MP3 and WMA playback on CD and lets you add satellite radio or HD Radio to your system. If 52W x 4 output power isn't enough, you also can add external amplifiers using the MEX-BT2700's front, rear, and subwoofer selectable preouts with LPF/HPF (Low Pass Filter/High Pass Filter) and tweak the output to each component to create the exact sound environment you want.

And because the MEX-BT2700 is part of the Xplod line, you get bold styling and functionality on the front end with a 13-segment fluorescent display, key illumination, and front auxiliary input.

On the inside, Sony Drive S technology means faster, more precise disc playback; a higher signal-to-noise ratio; a shock damper; and S-MOSFET output technology for maximum signal integrity and clean sound.

Owner Review:

My first Sony, July 12, 2009
By Mike W. "Mike" (Washington DC) -
This deck is really a great deck for those looking to upgrade their CD deck and are not interested in a USB connection. The deck has all the feature that you could think of: bluetooth, sat and HD radio ready and an aux jack. For 150$ you will not find anything better. If your looking for a great deck with lots of features and don't care about USB this is the one for you.
You can have your Sony Xplod MEX-BT2700 clicking here!

From enhanced USB, iPod, and Bluetooth connectivity to improved user control and customization, Sony thought of everything when it comes to the Sony Xplod MEX-BT3700.

The MEX-BT3700 features new USB 1-Wire functionality, which provides nearly universal connection and control of USB devices, including iPods, from the front of the Xplod head unit. You also have the option of wirelessly streaming music from a Bluetooth-enabled device using Bluetooth hands-free. This feature works with several Bluetooth profiles and an integrated microphone to turn your car's stereo into a safe, hands-free cell phone and wireless audio system.

If you need to minimize road noise or unwanted ambient sound while you're talking, the MEX-BT3700 exclusively works with an optional external microphone (XA-MC10). Whether you're using a CD, an iPod, a Sony Walkman, or even a USB thumb drive, the MEX-BT3700 gives you great sound and loads of easy control options.

Quick-BrowZer, Jump Mode, and Zappin functions, along with Passenger Control, give you and your friends convenient access to all your music, including MP3, WMA, and AAC song files. DM+ (Digital Music Plus) detects the encoded bit rate of those song files and applies sound enhancers to help regain some of the warmth and resolution lost during the compression process.

And like other BT series head units, the MEX-BT3700 provides a solid foundation for a custom sound system, with three preouts, built-in LPF/HPF (Low Pass Filter/High Pass Filter), and satellite radio and HD Radio support.

In the last days I´ve been played a bit with a new Sony CDX-GT630UI, but I believe I've learned enough already to write this review :)

The Sonys new CDX-GT630UI model brings to the table full iPod/iPhone compatibility, along with simplicity. The press releases offered little information, but, after demoing the unit first hand, I have nothing but praise for this new product.

The CDX-GT630UI is standard Sony fare, with simple buttons and a very basic but readable display. Color choices for buttons are blue or green, text is white. The stereo's main feature is its front mounted USB port. This allows a thumb drive or a mp3 player to be plugged directly in. More importantly however is the ability to plug in an iPhone sync cable.

Now, to clarify, the Sony offers too modes for iPod/iPhone. First mode is standard iPod control, which for anyone who has ever used an OEM iPod hookup, or most other stereo manufacturers, the iPod plays music through the stereo, and all song controls are done through the headunit, leaving the iPod locked and displaying an information message. With the iPhone 3g hooked in, the 'iPod' function is locked out, but the rest of the phone remains usable. Songs are chosen through the head unit only, using a tree system based on "Arist/Album/Song" as the primary sorting/listing method. Nothing new, nothing special.

THE COOL PART HOWEVER is switching into Passenger Control Mode. This frees the iPhone to be fully functional, allowing song selection to be done from the iPhone itself. Once a song is selected, the artist name/track title displays on the Sony's screen, and audio plays through the deck. If you watch a video on the iPhone, the title of the video displays on the Sony. How about Pandora? Yep, audio outputs from Pandora straight into the Sony. All through a standard sync cable that you have at home.

Unplug the iPhone and the music pauses. Plug the iPhone back in and the music resumes where it left off. There are NO AIRPLANE ERROR MESSAGES, IT CHARGES THE PHONE, ITS SIMPLE, AND IT WORKS. I have not seen anything so far that gets along this well with the iPhone 3g to date.

This Stereo is on sale at Amazon with $34.96 off from its original price($159.95-$34.96=$124.99). Click here to go to Amazon.com

Let´s take a look at all of the stereos features:

  • Flip-down, detachable faceplate with 2-line, LCD display
  • Front USB 1-wire for iPhone, iPod, and Walkman music player and other compatible devices
  • Quick-BrowZer feature with Jump Mode, ZAPPIN feature and Passenger Control
  • SAT radio and HD radio ready with front auxiliary input
  • EQ3 Stage 2, 2-volt front, rear and sub pre-outs

Let me show you what current owners have to say about it:

Love it!, November 2, 2009 I purchased this radio and installed it myself about a week ago. I love it. It looks great and it is so simple and easy to use!

I have no idea why people are saying the interface is bad and it takes a ton of clicks to get anywhere. Maybe they are taking the long way? It takes me no more than 5-10 seconds to make any adjustments. I also find the volume very easy to control. You don't accidentally enter any menus by adjusting the volume. You would definitely have to try to get into the menus.

The flip down to access the CD drive is great - it keeps it clean and lasts longer. The colors are great and the removable faceplate keeps the radio from being stolen.

The sound clarity is amazing as well. The USB port is great. I just plug in my iPod with the cable that came with it (same one you use to hook it up to your computer). It charges it and I can control the songs right from my radio! No sense in paying for the auxiliary cable PLUS cable to charge it because you can do it all through the USB that came with the iPod.

I'm beyond happy with my choice! I would highly recommend this radio and would definitely buy it again.
